10 Most Engaged Cities in 2015

We recently released our list of the most engaged cities in the U.S. Did your city make the list?


Leveraging employee surveys from nearly 5,500 organizations and 440,000 employees who participated in the Best Places to Work program, we aggregated contest data to identify cities with the highest percent of engaged employees. In order to be considered for the list, each city needed at least 30 participating organizations in the Best Places to Work contest.


Cities ranged from having 75.2 percent of employees engaged to only 55 percent of employees engaged. On average, 71 percent of employees were engaged in the top 10 cities.


The following cities ranked highest by percent of engaged employees:



Four cities have been on the top ten list three years in a row: Nashville, Washington, D.C., Miami-Dade, and Austin. Additionally, three cities made the list for the first time this year: New York, Birmingham, and Tampa.

Survey Methodology
Quantum Workplace evaluates the key factors affecting employee engagement, including perceptions of teamwork, manager effectiveness, trust in senior leaders, trust in coworkers, retention, alignment with goals, feeling valued, individual contribution, job satisfaction, and benefits. The survey uses a six-point Likert scale, and employees are classified as engaged when their average score is between five and six. All surveys were collected from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014.
