What to See and Do at World Class Workforce Experience

It’s that time of year again – your coworkers are taking off for the sunny beaches and bottomless Mai Tais of a tropical locale…and you’re headed to Portland, Oregon. Or at least, you are if you’re like us, attending the 2017 World Class Workforce Experience Conference on March 28th and 29th.

Your beach-going friends already have their itineraries, so let us help you build yours. Find the best Portland adventure, below, based on your HR personality.  What type of HR pro are you?

Every time the company signs up for a 5k, it’s your doing.

Visit: Marquam Nature Park

You love being active, and you want your company’s employees to develop that love, too – after all, leading a healthy lifestyle has many benefits, both inside and outside the office. This park is just minutes from Portland’s downtown, and with over 7 miles of hiking trails, it’s sure to take your mind off whatever you’re missing back at the office.

Your work week ends with a Friday night cocktail.

Visit: The Pearl District

Located in the center of downtown Portland, this neighborhood is buzzing with the best bars, restaurants, and nightlife. Make sure you stop by Quantum Workplace’s exclusive happy hour on Tuesday the 28th from 7-9pm at The Cleaners for some of the best food and drink in Oregon — recipient of multiple Best Bar in America designations.

When you have a question about employee engagement, you go straight to the research.

Visit: Powell’s City of Books

Googling answers is great, but there’s just something about a hardcover that feels right. Founded in 1971, Powell’s City of Books is the largest new and used bookstore in the world. Take the six-minute ride from the Oregon Convention Center to the Powell’s, and their selection of one million books practically ensures that you’ll find your next good read.

You think that Up in the Air should have won the Oscar. Because living the life of an HR pro deserves recognition…and because George Clooney.

Visit: Hollywood Theatre

Since 1926, the Hollywood Theatre has been bringing entertainment to Portlanders big and small. Now a nonprofit and a member of the National Register of Historic Places, the Hollywood Theatre still prides itself on featuring the best in film. Catch a classic or contemporary flick, or watch one of their live performances and special events.

Your favorite employee activity is the all-company chili cook-off.

Visit: Voodoo Doughnut

This Portland icon has the most original doughnuts you’ve ever seen. Though the menu is constantly changing, local favorites include Cap’n Crunch, Tang, and Arnold Palmer varieties. Featured on The Tonight Show, No Reservations, and The Simpsons, we’re pretty sure you don’t want to miss this place. We’ll also be passing out Voodoo deliciousness at our convention center booth, so be sure to stop by on Wednesday around 10:30!

“Attention to the tiniest detail” would be your workplace superpower.

Visit: Mill Ends Park

Come and see the world’s smallest park! Frequented by a popular group of leprechauns, this park is complete with a swimming pool, diving board, and Ferris wheel. A perfect way to get some fresh air after a long day at the World Class Workforce Experience.

Cher’s “Working Girl” is your jam.

Visit: Music Millennium

Portland’s “homegrown music store” is perfect for anyone interested in adding another record to their collection. Stocking both national and local musicians, Music Millennium runs the gamut of genres: folk, country, rap, R&B, pop, rock, blues, jazz, reggae, classical – you name it, they’ve got it. Hopefully you’re in town long enough to catch one of their live performances!

You conquer the performance management world thanks to your daily dose of caffeine.

Visit: Stumptown Coffee Roasters

If you’re looking for coffee expertise, you’ve come to the right place. Unlike other coffee roasters that buy beans in bulk, Stumptown buys directly from the people who grow the beans – traveling all over the world to do so. Winner of the prestigious Roaster of the Year Award, and close enough to the Oregon Convention Center that you can stop by between speakers!

You push your organization to set big goals – like, really big.

Visit: Portland Area Tram

If you’re scared of heights, this is the time to conquer that fear. Traveling at 22 mph, the tram rises 500 feet during the four-minute trip. Your bravery will be rewarded with views of downtown Portland, the largest enclosed sky bridge in North America, and a patio overlooking Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens.

All these cool places – so little parking! Here’s some help for getting a spot.

We can’t wait to see you at World Class Workforce Experience. You can register for the conference here. Also, don’t forget to reach out to RSVP to your happy hour event!
